Topic: The G-Spot Between Reality and Utopia
Presenter: Yvonne Maratos, MD
Yvonne Maratos, M.D., is a diagnostic and interventional radiologist in Cannes, France. She teaches radiology at Witten/Herdecke University in Germany and at the European College of Osteopathy in France. She received her M.D. degree at the University of Bochum, and her further training included a fellowship at UCLA. She is an author on 65 research publications and presentations. The best-known is the study, of which she is first author, that offers evidence of the existence of the G-Spot (Maratos et al., “The G-spot: an observational MRI pilot study,” in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Jan. 18, 2016).
Description: “The G-Spot Between Reality and Utopia.” Dr. Maratos’s talk has implications for our understanding of the psychology of women. The clitoris has long been understood to be a prime center of female sexual stimulation. The G-spot, an area within the vagina, has been postulated as another area of sexual stimulation, but its existence has been a matter of controversy. Dr. Maratos will discuss her research that offers evidence of the G-spot’s existence. She will consider, and our discussion will further explore, the emotional and psychological implications of the possible existence of the G-spot. These questions are especially relevant to psychoanalysis due to Sigmund Freud’s contested psychology of women, which included his speculations about the role in sexual development of clitoral stimulation and intercourse.
