Description:
In traditional Chinese religious and philosophical traditions, including Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism, there are profound elaborations on emptiness (śūnyatā) and enlightenment, as well as wisdom. Within emptiness, enlightenment occurs, and enlightenment, in turn, deepens the understanding of emptiness. Similarly, in Judaism, there are also descriptions of void or emptiness. In psychoanalysis, Freud’s concepts of the mirror, free association, and evenly floating attention, as well as Bion’s later notion of "No memory, No desire," all contain ideas resonant with emptiness. This lecture aims to explore the relationship between emptiness and transformation in the clinical practice of psychoanalysis.

Learning Objectives
After attending this session, participants should be able to:
- Describe one way one of these religions (Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism for Judaism) define emptiness.
- Describe how one of Freud's concepts ( mirroring, free association or evenly floating attention) or Bion's concept of "No memory No desire" contain ideas resonant with emptiness.
- Describe how emptiness and transformation can be seen in the clinical practice of psychoanalysis.
